About Hoover's Dance Program
Dance - Beginning(6th-8th grade): (No experience needed) Students learn basic movement fundamentals and are introduced to a wide variety of dance styles including but not limited to Hip Hop, Ballet, Jazz, and Salsa. Students also explore dance history as well as basic dance composition utilizing the Elements of Dance. Students are expected to participate in a Fall and Spring Dance Concert showcasing performance pieces learned throughout the year.
Dance - Audition Level (6th-8th grade): (Three levels: Proficient, Accomplished, and Performance/Dance Evolution)
Proficient: Students continue their training in a wide variety of dance styles including but not limited to Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet, Modern, and Tap.
Accomplished: Students continue their training in a wide variety of dance styles including but not limited to Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Musical Theater. Both classes continue their exploration of dance history as well as dance composition and perform in the Fall and Spring Dance Concerts showcasing performance pieces learned throughout the year.
Performance/Dance Evolution: Students that audition and are placed on the competition dance team, Dance Evolution, will be expected to have strong Jazz technique, as well as experience in Hip Hop and Lyrical. This is a performance-based class with a required weekly after school practice. The team competes in local competitions and has additional performance opportunities throughout the year. Students will also continue to develop their choreographic skills, as well as participate in the Fall and Spring Dance Concerts. Email Ms. Hanlon at shanlon@sjusd.org for audition information.
